To show my appreciation for my thesis interviewees who volunteered to participate in qualitative interviews to talk about their sex education experiences in family, schooling, and media, I completed this series of small paintings of Asian/Asian American media figures/creatives. I wanted to challenge the notion of transactional compensation to instead create individualized works. Some of the figures were mentioned explicitly in interviews (such as Rina Sawayama) while others reminded me of my interviewees in some capacity due to their background, values, or work. All paintings are 8x10 in acrylic on canvas.
